Medicine of the Self is a personal practice centered in a shamanic practice, called Soul Retrieval. Soul Retrieval is a process involving the retrieval of fragments of the soul that have been lost, separated or disconnected from oneself due to trauma. In this practice I will be creating Shadow Figures, which are shadow aspects of my soul and psyche. These figures will be mixed media sculptures worn on my body during a death ritual I perform on the land.  They will be made out of clay and organic materials because I will be offering my Shadow Figures to the Earth during the death ritual. 

Medicine of Another will involve me offering one on one rituals to guide individuals in a practice of diving into the subconscious to see what is hidden in the psyche and body. Cultivating a practice of reclaiming one’s shadow allows one to integrate the wounds and traumas they carry. Through reclaiming their shadow, the shadow becomes transformed into their conscious awareness and a new relation is able to be birthed between them and their shadow. Once becoming aware of their shadow we will be creating sculptures out of clay and organic materials to represent expressions of their shadow aspect. These vessels will be their Shadow Figures. I intend to work with organic materials and clay in order for the shadow to be transformed into external tangible objects that can be recycled and offered to the earth, in order for the objects to be buried in the final ceremony.
